What is Engineering GatorTrax?
Engineering GatorTrax is a long-term program designed to increase
the number of minority students who complete advanced mathematics
courses in high school and middle school.
It is sponsored by a GE Foundation grant for 4 years. It is intended to
be sustainable at the end of 4 years through the integration of
existing math and science based programs.
What is expected of middle school and high school teachers?
Middle and high school mathematics teachers will receive special training
in the delivery of hands-on math.
Teachers are also asked to participate in Saturday Engineering
programs with their students. Saturday
Engineering will occur ten times throughout the academic year.
Each program runs from 9:00 - 12:00 at the local community college
campus (or other designated location).
Teachers do not need to commit to every Saturday session. However,
teachers are an integral part of the Saturday program. Teaching
assignments will be scheduled according to the number of teachers
participating in each grade in each county.
Will I be compensated?
Middle and high school teachers will receive a stipend for Saturday
Engineering participation.
What support will I receive from UF and/or other participants?
Support is available from the UF College of Engineering, College of
Education, and the individuals involved in the Engineering GatorTrax
program. In addition, student mentors are teamed with GatorTRAX students
and provide support for the Saturday Engineering program.
